WHATS BUZZING
Tim's Legacy Lives On: Avicii Forever Hits Spotify's Top 5
The numbers don't lie โ Tim Bergling's impact on our scene is still absolutely massive. Avicii Forever just cracked Spotify's top five most-streamed albums ever with over 14 billion plays, sitting right behind Bad Bunny, The Weeknd, and Ed Sheeran.
Released this past May through Interscope, the compilation brings together Tim's career-defining tracks plus "Let's Ride Away" โ a previously unreleased collab with Elle King that represents some of his final work before his passing in 2018.
Most of these tracks had already built their streaming numbers individually over the years. What we're really seeing is how streaming platforms package nostalgia and how Tim's music continues to resonate with both longtime fans and new listeners discovering his genius.
It's bittersweet seeing these milestones. Every play represents someone connecting with the melodies and emotions Tim poured into his craft. His anthems shaped an entire generation of musicians, and clearly that influence isn't going anywhere.
SHAPING THE SOUND
๐๏ธ Sub Bass Distortion with Multiband Saturation
Enhance sub presence without muddying the mix by targeting just the lows.
One of the most effective ways to make your sub bass speak on smaller systems โ without overloading the mix โ is multiband saturation. Instead of distorting the entire signal, you isolate the low end (often under 150Hz) and apply warmth or grit specifically to that range. The result? A bass that retains its weight but gains clarity and texture, especially on earbuds or laptop speakers.
In Ableton Live, grab the Multiband Dynamics device or use a third-party option like FabFilter Saturn 2. Create three bands and focus your processing on the low band only. Drive it slightly with a warm tape or tube saturation mode. Keep the distortion subtle โ the goal isnโt fuzz, itโs fullness.
Pro Tip: Layer your distorted sub underneath a clean version of the same bass โ blending the clean punch with the colored harmonic content gives you more control over balance.
This technique is a staple in club music genres where subs need to translate in every environment. A little heat in the right place can make all the difference.
